In the Veneto region, the peach is called “persego”, the word clearly deriving from Persia, from where the old Venetians imported this fruit.

The word Armellin, which means “apricot” in the Veneto dialect, recalls the origins of the Apricot tree whose motherland is Armenia. In this area, we know that spring is coming when the pink flowers of apricot trees start blooming in the Euganean Hills and, step by step, everything starts coming back to life.

Zizolara is a typical plant of the Euganean Hills and it has been cultivated in Arquà Petrarca for ages. Jujube fruit is used to make the famous Brodo di giuggiole, a liqueur which is renowned for its sweetness.

The Zizolara apartment is located on the first floor of our annex; its wooden ceiling and the view over the garden and the portico make this apartment the ideal place for a romantic holiday. A large bathroom with a sloping ceiling is also available.

The word comes from Venetian, meaning “pomegranate”. The pomegranate tree, originating in Asian regions, is widespread also in the Euganean Hills and one beautiful exemplar can be admired at Casa Massaro Todeschini especially in the summer when its leaves blaze red-orange.

The Colombara is the only apartment located on the second floor and attic. The Colombara takes its name from the dovecote tower that, since the Middle Ages, was used for breeding pigeons and doves, which were useful for agriculture, hunting and communication. The apartment features a porthole with a view of the Euganean Hills and a shower with a skylight, ideal for taking a relaxing shower under the stars or living romantic moments.

The Granaro is a charming apartment located on the first floor which takes its name from the Granary; in Venetian, “Granaro” is the local where the wheat was stored. It stands apart for high ceilings and stone details and overlooks the bioclimatic greenhouse, the gardens and the swimming pool. .

Until the end of the nineteenth century, farmers used the “pajon”, a sort of mattress filled with corn husks, for sleeping and, only later, husks were replaced by wool or horsehair.

The “tinello”, which was a sort of dining-room, was even mentioned in “The Betrothed”, the famous novel by Manzoni. The “tinello” was a room close to the kitchen and it was used either for having meals or just relaxing. In our house, from the Tinello apartment, you can get directly to the winter garden on the ground floor that overlooks the garden and swimming pool.
